Ely Centre offers 75 training places

Seventy-five people are to attain vocational education qualifications in what is expected to be a promising forthcoming year for The Ely Centre in Enniskillen.

The centre is about to embark on a new project funded by the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation through PROTEUS Ni. The project will offer the opportunity for 75 people to attain vocational education qualifications in a number of courses, ranging from the likes of HGV and forklift training, to barbering and hairdressing, to scuba diving instructor courses.

In all, there are more than 15 courses available.

The Centre has enlisted Scott King as the newly appointed Project Manager to introduce the forthcoming project.

"I look forward to developing a sustainable learning programme that will nurture the sensitive needs of victims/survivors in Fermanagh and South Tyrone," Mr King enthused.

He thanked PROTEUS who funded this project under the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation, and offered membership to anyone interested in the up and coming activities the Centre had on offer.

Meanwhile, Lee McDowell, the Ely Centre Co-ordinator, said the committee, staff and members of the Centre were extremely enthusiastic about the new adult vocational training programme.

"The project was developed in partnership with the members, and they have a pivotal role in its success, the range of programme and courses, which cover all avenues of employment, from construction, health and beauty, recreational to business skills.

"The Centre also will be able to offer support and guidance to all those enrolled on the courses through career guidance", he added.

He said staff were all very pleased to have been offered the opportunity to deliver the programme in the Fermanagh area and, in combination with the Base Project, this newly funded programme through YESIP 2007 promised to be an exciting and busy time at the Centre.

Anyone interested is finding out more can call into the centre on Forthill Street, phone 028 6632 0977, or email info@elycentre.com
