St Aidan's through to Ulster decider

ST AIDAN'S DERRYLIN ............8-13

ST COLM'S DRAPERSTOWN ......2-3

No doubting the better team at Tempo, St Aidan's leading at the break by 3-9 to 0-3, and all their match scores coming from play.

They now play the hugely populated St Theresa's from Belfast in the final, probably the week after Easter.

Until then, the girls will savour a job well done, despite what was for both teams a day of very heavy rain at the start, with credit due to the Tempo Club for making their pitch available.

St Aidan's got off to a whirlwind start, going 0-6 clear after 12 minutes, from Elaine Maguire, Joanne Doonan, Brid McManus, Theresa Doogan and Lisa Maguire, the last-named bagging the first goal in the 15th minute. They tagged on a further point to lead by 1-7 before Derry got their opening point. Then, around the 24th minute, St Aidan's rattled in two more goals, from Elaine Maguire and two Leonard, this after a neat inter-passing movement, to put the outcome out of sight.

As in the opening half, St Aidan's found the target early in the second-half and their defence was up to the task as St Colm's set about addressing their situation. In fact, there was no further scoring till the 50th minute. Having tried and failed to find the target, St Colm's could only look on as St Aidan's hit two more goals inside a minute, from Joanne Doonan and Lisa Maguire, followed by points in quick succession from Maguire, Elaine Maguire and Leonard.

St Colm's second goal came in the last kick of the game.

In an excellent team display, the Derrylin goalkeeper, Donna Owens brought off a number of very good saves and, in front of her, the full-back line were outstanding, as were the midfield of Jacqueline Curry and Teresa Doogan.
