Six members of Enniskillen Photographic Society travelled to Ballyshannon on Wednesday evening for an Interclub night with the North West Photographic Society.
A 'Print Battle' challenge was organised between the two clubs with independent guest judge Kevin Hart (Sligo Camera Club) having the difficult job of adjudicating on the evening.
Kevin, originally from Cornwall, is an Associate member of the Royal Photographic Society and has many years experience in various aspects of photography from theatrical photography, studio and fashion work to printing and editing. He now enjoys landscape photography and the great outdoors!
The evening in Kilbarron House, with a warm welcome from NWPS vice chairman. The Enniskillen members submitted 22 prints in total, colour and mono, covering a wide range of subjects, from portraits and sporting action to landscapes and candid shots. These were matched with a similar varied selection from NWPS.
Kevin then let the battle commence! One print from each society was judged head to head. Kevin gave an in-depth critique of each photo and then declared a winner. He welcomed feedback from the photographer about how each shot was taken and also any questions. Kevin offered valuable constructive advice on how a picture could be improved, if at all! The standard was very high and on a number of occasions he was unable to decide an outright winner and therefore had to split the vote. The battle was closely fought throughout but, in the end, victory went to Enniskillen with 11.5 points to 10.5.
The evening was rounded off with a handsome spread and a very welcome cup of tea. Members had a chance to catch up with some old friends from Ballyshannon or indeed make some new ones. All considered the evening a great success.
There is now a short break for Easter before we return with an Audio Visual Night on Thursday 3 April. Chris Walpole will demonstrate how to make and AV using slides, then Terry McCartney will do likewise with digital prints. The evening will commence and 7.30 with an EGM to discuss alterations to the Constitution. Visit www.enniskillenphotosociety.com for full report.
