Call for recognition
of troops returning home

Ulster Unionist Councillor, Tom Elliott has called for Fermanagh District Council to recognise the safe return of the members of the Home Services branch of the Territorial Army who have come back from the war in Afghanistan this week.

Mr Elliott stressed he was not trying to make this a political issue, and that he was not looking for the Council to specifically host a parade in the County.

However, he did say: "For a town with the military background which Enniskillen has, I think it would be fitting to give some kind of recognition to these people as a thanksgiving for those who made it home safely and to remember those who didn't return home."

"I am not asking anyone to support what is happening over there, just to give thanks for those who have come home.

"Just some kind of recognition, that's all."

It was agreed Mr Elliott should discuss the matter with the Chief Executive and then report back to the Councillors.
