New Year's Resolutions

Martin McGrath Pic by: Declan Masterson

By Nuala McAloon

Thomas O'Reilly, Chairman of Fermanagh District Council

"I don't make New Year resolutions, but my wish would be that there would be better economic times for the people of Fermanagh and Ireland in general, and that there will be more opportunity for jobs and better lives in 2009."

Judith Wilson, Miss Northern Ireland

"Being in Africa (Miss World Final) made me aware of the importance of voluntary work and how small things can make a big difference. So, in the New Year I hope to continue with my charity work and working with the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice."

Marty McGrath, captain of the Fermanagh Senior GAA team

"2008 saw us get into our first Ulster Final in 26 years, so this year we will be doing everything in our power to win Ulster. Everyone is looking forward to getting back into it in the New Year and we will be trying out best for each other and the Fermanagh supporters to bring home some silverware in 2009."

Siobhan O'Brien, drama teacher from Belleek who won a £649,657 share in the Lottery.

"I am one of the main organisers of Project America which will see 141 people from St. Mary's High School, Brollagh and the Borderline Players put on a show in America between the 6th and 16th of April. So, all my resolutions will revolve around that. Number One: I will try to make sure everyone has an enjoyable and rewarding experience when they are away. Number Two: I aim to keep my cool when the pressure is on and not resort to my drama queen outbursts. And Number Three: that after April I will spend some time with my poor husband and son who I think have forgotten what I look like!"

Neven Maguire, Award winning celebrity chef and owner of MacNean House and Bistro, Blacklion.

"My big wish for 2009 is to spend more time with my wife, Amelda and to get a lot fitter and healthier. I want to focus more on my fitness this year because sometimes it can be hard when you are travelling around the country, so it's all about making time. I also want to enjoy life and work. 2008 was a fantastic year. I have a new 13-part programme which was made in the UK starting in February and the new book is flying. I am working on another new book which should be finished by March and ready for next Christmas."
