Enniskillen Light Operatic's production of Hello Dolly! opens in the Ardhowen Theatre tomorrow, Thursday, 30th November for ten performances.
This sparkling musical opened on Broadway in 1964 and briefly held the record for the longest running Broadway production before it was overtaken by Fiddler on the Roof.
Arol Channing took the lead in the first production.
The 1969 film version which cost millions of dollars, featured Barbra Streisand and Walter Matthau.
Enniskillen's show has not cost millions of dollars but keeps closely to the original stage version with all its humour and sometimes farcical situations.
The role of Dolly Levi as a feisty and determined matchmaker is ably played by Jayne Brucher and the crusty, half-a-millionaire, Horace Vandergelder is given excellent treatment by Billy Mulligan.
This is the tenth show put on by Enniskillen Light Operatic as a company, although musical shows sponsored by the Ardhowen Theatre, have taken place almost yearly since 1986. Each year the company welcomes newcomers and seasoned performers to its rehearsals and lots of fun is had by all!
Gordon Johnston has designed and decorated a beautiful set.
Dylan Quinn is the choreographer and Dan Swain the orchestra director. Irene Kernohan is chorus director and Eamon Bradley the overall director.
The story is set in New York in the 1890s and is enhanced by lovely costumes of the period and with rousing musical numbers such as "Hello Dolly", "It takes a woman" and "Put on your Sunday clothes".
