The Monopoly campaign has finally came to a close. But, for the Fermanagh crusade, we must now wait a staggering five months to find what position our county finally finished up in.
Throughout the month long voting campaign, pledgers were able to keep a check on the leader board to see how far up or down their county was faring on the list, but in the last few days, voters were kept in the dark as the Monopoly Board website eradicated the leader board, opting instead to tease our thinking and leave the end of the campaign a 'mystery'.
The last sighting showed that Fermanagh was in a healthy ninth position, which one would assume should secure our position on the final All-Ireland version of the Board. But, with only the top 22 counties guaranteed a place, and with a final surge to place votes, no one will know whether we fared better or worse than our competitors until October!
The 'Fermanagh Herald' actively started a quest to put Fermanagh on the Board a month ago when the county was polling in last. Since then, and over the weeks, our position jumped from 25 to 13, and from 13 to number nine on the leader board.
In a statement posted on its website this week, Monopoly thanked voters for their arduous campaigning and voting.
"After a month of voting, over one million votes, some amazing campaigns and more than a few passionate voters, voting has closed.
"We are now counting the votes, verifying each one to ensure that the final 22 locations on the Monopoly Here and Now UK edition are a fair representation of the UK's passionate voting for the past four weeks".
"Keep your eyes on this site", the statement went on, "for the official announcement about the winning location coming early October but, who knows, eagle eyed voters might find a clue or two in the meantime.
"Thank you for all your hard work, dedication and most of all the passion you have shown. Fingers crossed for your town, city or village getting its place in history."
So, watch this space, Fermanagh on the new All-Ireland version of the Monopoly Board may just be tipped to be the top gift this Christmas.
