Vandalism in Lisnaskea condemned

A deliberate act of vandalism in the centre of Lisnaskea has spoiled a unique attraction in the Corn Market, and will also have a knock-on effect when it comes to this year's Christmas programme in the town

Thick perspex plastic sheets which cover the rails of the Stable Project were smashed, sometime in the last two weeks.

Lisnaskea Chamber of Commerce have expressed their 'disgust and shock at the deliberate act of vandalism'.

A spokesperson for the Chamber explained: "It's location in the lovely venue of the Corn Market with its natural stone work, seats, hanging baskets made it a natural attraction in the Town.

"This stable project was undertaken three years ago with the help of art students from both secondary schools in the area. Figurines and a floodlight stable were developed to enhance the location at the switching on of the Town's Christmas lights and on into the new year."

She explained that the damage was extensive and carried out with long, heavy objects. "Unfortunately, the expense of replacing this safety measure is borne by the Town's businesses who contribute towards the Christmas Lights Programme which is run to promote the Town over the Christmas period.

"In all probability, this year's events will be curtailed owing to this additional expense. In fact, it has been getting more difficult each year to balance the books without mindless vandals deliberating destroying community projects.

If anyone has any information regarding this act of vandalism is asked to contact the PSNI on 677 21777
