A motorcyclist who thought an insurance policy he had for one motorbike covered him to ride another has found out that it didn't.
The offence led to an appearance before Fermanagh Magistrates Court of Martin Flynn (31) from Killyvilly in Enniskillen, facing charges of driving without insurance and failing to produce his licence.
The Court was told that the defendant was stopped by police riding his Suzuki motorcycle on the Tullyreagh Road, Tempo at 10.00pm on 21st January this year. When stopped, police asked him to produce his driving documents.
When the defendant attended the police station, on 27th January, it turned out he was insured for a different vehicle and had thought that policy covered him to ride this bike, which it didn't.
Defending, Michael Sides explained that his client had two motorbikes and he thought his insurance policy for the first motorbike covered him to ride the second one. He added that the second motorbike was insured 24 hours after he was made aware, hence, correcting the situation as soon as he realised his error.
The defendant works in Manorhamilton as a butcher.
Sentencing, Resident Magistrate Bonita Boyd imposed a £200 fine and endorsed his licence with six penalty points for no insurance. For failure to produce, a £70 fine was imposed.
