A 19-year-old Enniskillen man intervened while police were trying to perfect an arrest following a disturbance in the Diamond area of Enniskillen, which has led to a court appearance for Dominic McGoldrick, from Cavandale in the town.
The court heard that on 25th January, around 2.00am, police attended the scene of a disturbance at High Street, Enniskillen.
While officers were trying to arrest another individual, Gallinagh intervened a number of times despite being asked to stay out of the matter. And, when the other individual was being taken away, the defendant insisted he was going to the police station with him.
The Court was told that the defendant then lunged twice at a police officer, punching him on the nose on one occasion.
Gallinagh was arrested for his behaviour, and when he later attended the police station for interview, he apologised to Constable Hicks for his behaviour.
Defending, Bernard Corrigan told the court the defendant summed the whole incident up himself during police interview when he said he was 'getting in the road', and should have just minded his own business.
He asked the court to be as lenient as possible in this case.
For assaulting Constable Clive Hicks, Resident Magistrate Bonita Boyd imposed a 12 month Probation Order and, for the charge of disorderly behaviour, imposed a £150 fine.
