Driving without insurance, without a vehicle test certificate, without displaying 'L' plates and driving while unaccompanied are the four charges that a young Roslea woman faced when she appeared before a recent sitting of Fermanagh Magistrates Court.
Before the court pleading guilty to the motoring charges was Michelle Teresa Connolly (25) from Mullaghconnolly, Roslea.
The court heard that on 28th May this year, police were operating a vehicle checkpoint along the New Bridge Road, Lisnaskea when they stopped a Vauxhall Vectra being driven by the defendant.
She admitted to police that she had no insurance. The other offences were also noted.
Defending, Nessa Murnaghan handed into the court a valid vehicle test certificate and valid insurance documentation for this car showing that the situation had now been regularised.
Ms Murnaghan said her client bought the vehicle with the intention of getting her test but hadn't got around to this. The defence also explained how the defendant had trouble finding work in the locality.
When the defendant received an offer of work, Ms Murnaghan went on, he defendant as being between a 'rock and a hard place', in that she needed the car to get to work even though the car wasn't right for the road. In the event, she took a chance and took out the car, and it was then she was detected by police.
Ms Murnaghan said her client was sorry for the offence and she submitted that she had co-operated fully with police in this matter.
Sentencing, Resident Magistrate Bonita Boyd imposed a £200 fine and six penalty points for the no insurance charge.
For driving without a valid vehicle test certificate, a £70 fine was imposed and she was fined a further £100 for driving without supervision.
For driving without displaying 'L' plates, a 12 month conditional discharge was imposed.
