Vicious assault in Drumbawn

BY AILEEN MURPHY

Police are appealing for information following a vicious assault in a housing estate in Enniskillen in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Peter McCann suffered severe ear injuries when a brick was thrown through a window of a house he was visiting in the Drumbawn estate. Mr McCann was taken to hospital where he received three stitches to his ear.

He is highlighting the incident in a bid to reduce this type of violence in the area.

Mr McCann, who does not live in Drumbawn, explained he had been regularly staying in the house, which is owned by his friend, while his friend was undergoing hospital treatment.

He explained: "I went back about two o'clock on Sunday morning, just to check on the house and I was going to stay there that night. There were no people about when I was getting out of the taxi. I went on into the house and had gone into the living room and turned on the light, then I went out to the kitchen and just as I was coming back into the hall two bricks were thrown through the hallway window," he recalled.

"I opened the door and saw there were two people, I gave chase but they got away."

It was at that stage that Mr McCann realised he had been injured in the incident and he was losing a large amount of blood from an injury to the side of his head. He was taken to hospital where he received three stitches to his ear.

Mr McCann said this is not the first time his friends house has been attacked, that the living room windows in the property were smashed a few weeks earlier, and as a result of this, his friend is not intending to return to his property.

He has urged whoever is causing trouble in the area to stop and to leave people alone in their own houses.

Police confirmed they are investigating the attack. Anyone with information should contact police on 0845 600 8000, or call Crimestoppers on the freephone number 0800 555 111.
