Two of Fermanagh's non-grammar schools finished in the Top Ten of a 51-school league table based on the most up to date Department of Education figures from the 2006/2007 school year.
They are St Eugene's College, Roslea (6th) and St Aidan's High School, Derrylin who finished jointly with two other schools one place behind them but were allocated 9th position as the other two schools scored on the 'more than 2 A Levels' tie-breaker.
In all, there are 157 non-grammar schools across Northern Ireland, and out of these the top 51 were ranked in order of the percentage of pupils who achieved 5 or more GCSE's at Grades A*-C in the 2006-07 academic year.
St Eugene's, who were placed in sixth place, had 73 per cent of pupils who were in the '5 + GCSE' category, with St Aidan's scoring 71 per cent.
Its headmaster, Martin McBrien recalled that his school was in last year's Top Ten bracket as well, and he said he was very pleased with the pupils' performance.
"Definitely. As always, I have to pay tribute to three groups of people, the parents for their support, the hard work along with the abilities of our pupils, and the expertise and the dedication of our staff".
