The recent 10k run/walk, at Derrylin which was sponsored by the local Centra store, with the proceeds going to Action Cancer's mental health programme for young people, raised £5,500.
This week, Aidan and Paul McDaid, the store owners joined Maeve Fox of Action Cancer at the hand-over of the cheque in the Equinox Leisure Centre, Derrylin from where the run was organised and started and ended.
The event proved a huge success, with some 200 participants, each of whom paid a registration fee that went into the 'pot' along with funds raised through sponsorship and collections.
Maeve explained the cheque £5,270) together with an additional £230 that had come in would now go to Action Cancer's health action's programme for young people which is sponsored by Centra and its 86 independent retail partners across Northern Ireland.
"Health Action," she said, "has been designed to educate young people on healthier lifestyles, including exercise, healthy eating and the dangers of smoking and alcohol abuse."
Action Cancer and Centra have proved an award-winning partnership since 2003 in advancing the charity's health promotion service for schools and colleges, and reducing risk among young people.
To date, over 130,000 young people have taken part in the scheme.
