An Enniskillen man who is already in custody for robbery appeared before Fermanagh Magistrates Court this week to face a further charge of robbery.
Ashley George Irvine (20) with an address at Cherry Walk, was sentenced to six months in prison for the offence by District Judge Liam McNally.
The court heard that sometime between 4.00pm on 2nd February and 9.00am the following morning an office at the rear of the Bistro Cafe, Main Street, Kesh was broken into. £550 of cash, two mobile phones and medical supplies were taken in the robbery.
Forensic officers were called to the scene following the robbery and a fingerprint, which was later matched to the defendant, was found. The defendant was arrested on suspicion of robbery.
Defending, Ian Turkington, BL, explained his client had been in custody for the past twelve months both as a sentenced prisoner and on remand.
Mr Turkington said the defendant had received a five year prison sentence for robbery and said his release date would be sometime during 2010.
"This is a crushing sentence for someone so young and I would ask the court not to interfere with this release date," said Mr Turkington.
The barrister said the defendant had been doing his best to better himself and hadn't been idle while in prison. Mr Turkington also explained the defendant had recently become a father.
The court heard the defendant had a difficult childhood and has a problem with gambling.
