A Trillick man who was stopped by police on suspicion of drink-driving and who then struggled with officers, resisting arrest, has appeared before Fermanagh Magistrates Court on a number of motoring related charges.
Michael McLaughlin (22) from Rosnareen Road, Trillick was stopped by police on 21st September this year as he drove along the Cornagrade road on suspicion of drink-driving.
The defendant was asked to take a preliminary breath test, which he failed. Police then told him he was going to be arrested but, at this, he refused to co-operate with police and he became violent.
As officers tried to get him into the rear of the police car be became more enraged and struggled with officers.
When the defendant finally calmed down he was taken to Enniskillen Custody Suite where he provided an evidential specimen of breath which revealed a lower reading of 76mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath - 41 in excess of the legal limit.
It also transpired the defendant had no licence or insurance.
Defending, Michael Fahy pointed out that there were no assaults on police during this matter but admitted that alcohol had been consumed.
Mr Fahy said this was a case of the afternoon after the night before, explaining the defendant had been drinking the previous night but not that day.
For driving with excess alcohol District Judge Liam McNally fined the defendant £250 and disqualified him from driving for 15 months.
For resisting arrest he was fined £100. For driving without insurance he was fined £200 and disqualified from driving for six months while for driving without a licence a fine of £30 was imposed.
