pl- irish column

Dia dhaoibh agus tá fáilte romhaibh chuig an chéad cheacht eile. This week's conversation takes place between Marcas, a new graduate and a group of students who are waiting in anticipation for their 'A'-Level results. Pronunciation guides in italic with syllabic emphasis in UPPERCASE follows the Irish and an English translation is then provided. Ar aghaidh linn! (Off we go!)

Marcas: Dia dhaoibh. Cad é mar atá sibh?

(Hello. How are you all?)

Nuala: Dia is muire dhuit a Mharcais. Tá mise giota beag neirbhíseach.

(Hello Marcas. I'm a little bit nervous.)

(Oh I see now. I remember the day I got my results. My stomach was annoying me the night before and I wasn't able to sleep soundly.)

(I studied English Literature, French and Religious Studies.)

Róise: Rinne mise staidéar ar Mhata, ar Ríomhaireacht agus ar Bhitheolaíocht.

(RIN missha STADGE-JAIR air WATTA, air REE-WAR-ocked ogus air VEHOLY-ocked.)

(I studied Maths, Computing and Biology.)

Proinsias: Rinne mise staidéar ar Thíreolaíocht, ar an Ghearmáin agus ar an Ghaeilge.

(I studied Geography, German and Irish.)

(And would you all like to go to University in the Autumn then?)

(I would like to get a degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Ulster.)

(With God's help I would like to go to Queen's University to study a degree in Veterinary Medicine.)

(I wish to do a degree in Secondary Teaching at St. Mary's University, London.)

(And I would like to be a teacher as well. I wish to go to St. Mary's University, Belfast to do a degree in Primary Education.)
