Determined to win

Enniskillen ABC had five boxers competing on Dungannon's Annual Boxing Tournament on Friday.

First in the ring was 15-year-old Jody Kelly at 57kg. Jody was up against old foe Dwayne Moore from the host club. This was the third time that these boys did battle with the score at one a piece.

This time, Jody was determined to make it 2-1 in his favour as he outboxed the game Dungannon boy over three very entertaining rounds to get a convincing victory. Jody is showing great promise in only his 5th fight.

Seventeen-year-old Dan Doran was next in the ring at 52kg. Dan boxed Nathan Beatty from Bishop Kelly ABC. This was an exhibition contest as Beatty was in the Youth 1 category. However, a thoroughly entertaining contest.

Enniskillen's Peter Hamilton was next in action, Peter at 80kg boxed Gareth Lawson from the host club. This was the fight of the night. Both boys stood toe to toe exchanging punch for punch from the first to the final bell. Peter being out of the gym for two weeks due to flu can be proud of his performance and is a name for the future. Lawson had his arm raised at the end of a terrific contest.

But for the flu, a fit Hamilton would have outpointed the strong Dungannon boy.

Ruairi Prunty at 60kg boxed another host club boy Kris Abraham. Again, this was a great contest with both boys giving their all, over three closely contested rounds.

Prunty showed a lot of class and scored with sharp left-right combinations. Again, the decision went to the local boy Abraham. Ruairi was unlucky not to get the decision, but he will be back to winning ways again.

Darren O'Kane at Heavyweight boxed Dungannon's Ray Ferguson. Again, this was a cracking contest, which had the crowd on their feet from start to finish with both boys matching each other punch for punch.

Darren proved he can mix it with the best after three action packed rounds saw the local boy's arm lifted. Ferguson won narrowly by a computer score of 20pts to 18pts.
