Nicola makes it two locals in 'Miss NI' finals

Last week we reported that Fermanagh would be represented by one contestant in this year's 'Miss NI' finals, Judith Wilson. Now, we have discovered, her former Collegiate GS class colleague, Nicola Corrigan, from Mullaghmeen is also in the last 24.

Patrons of the Manor House Hotel will readily recognise Nicola on the reception desk, a post she aspired to after graduating in Travel and Tourism at the University of Ulster. To get to the finals wasn't easy, as she explained.

"There were 21 girls in my heat and, would you believe, when we were short-listed to eight, there were three girls from Fermanagh, myself, Jill Wallace and Sarah Fossett. Basically, we had to stand for a while before the judges chose two of us, me and another girl. I must say I was over the moon. It was totally unexpected".

Her parents, Linda and Kevin, and her friends, including her boyfriend, Niall were in the audience and they will be again for the 'Miss NI' finals in the Europa Hotel in Belfast on Monday, 25th June. And, she intends being ready for the on-stage interview.

"It will probably be on the lines of the heats where we were asked a series of questions about where we worked, our interests and hobbies and I was asked if I wanted to surprise my boyfriend, what gift would it be'.

To keep herself in trim, Nicola goes running and intends taking part in Saturday's 10k event in Enniskillen.

Two of her closest fans will be keeping a close tab on her come 26th June, her maternal grandparents, Florence and Basil Elliott, from Florencecourt.
