Young people show 'spirit' for Enniskillen venture

Two young local students, Kelly Doonan (Mount Lourdes), who is from Maguiresbridge and Mark Ovens (Portora), who is from Belleek have been selected to participate in the Spirit of Enniskillen 2007. They will head to Cyprus for two weeks during the Summer as part of the Explore project.

Each year, the Trust supports 50 participants, aged 16-19, to develop their leadership and dialogue potential through travelling to other countries. There, they engage with others who are also facing differences or conflict.

Learning and development on each programme is supported throughout by a team of 10 young co-ordinator/leaders who are all themselves experienced past-participants of the project.

As well as having time for enjoyment and fun, Kelly and Mark will learn from key discussions on the issues that they select as important in their own lives. In doing this, they are also developed in the capacity to open up similar dialogue and learning with others.

On finishing, participants are expected to reflect on their experiences and use their new capacity to promote a culture of dialogue and learning between all social, cultural and religious traditions. The contribution of young people from all backgrounds and traditions is therefore greatly valued.
