Fourteen year old James Speight recently won the Northern Ireland Mountain Running Under-16 Championships. Competiting over a two mile course in Scrabo, Newtownards, James dominated the event, out running all the competitors. Indeed, his run was so strong that he finished second in the Under-18 Caterorgy.
A well deserved International vest now waits the Bellanaleck lad. James will run for N.Ireland in the British and Irish Mountain Running Championships in Wales on 6th October.
Marie-Therese Speight put in an excellent performance over the trails and took second place in the vetrans caterogy. Her hard training in Omagh has certainly paid off. Kelly-Anne, who was recovering from a knee injury finished fifth in the female open caterorgy. Younger sister Angela took a wrong turn and lost a lot of time as she ran 800m in the wrong direction. She was disappointed with the poor marshelling as she was in third position before she got lost.
