Young Skins side go down

CITY OF DERRY III ................................ 18

ENNISKILLEN IV .................................... 5

Enniskillen fielded a good number of young, inexperienced players as the IVs opened their league campaign against a very experienced City of Derry IIIs. The side was bolstered by a smattering of experience, with Robbie Watson and Stuart Campbell coming along to help their former charges at under-18 level adapt to the senior game.

All in all, it was a good performance, but one not borne out by the result, with Ewan Ferguson getting the side's only try. The young guns competed well but the inexperience told at vital times, resulting in the loss of good possession at crucial moments.

The side has a new captain this year in Chris Fox and it is hoped that he can gel together the other young club members in what is a great breeding ground for senior rugby.

FIXTURES

3rd XV – Home – Cooke III

4th XV – Home – Donegal II

This weekend sees a squad from Enniskillen Rugby Club depart for France where they will take in Ireland's first two World Cup pool matches against Namibia and Georgia in Bordeaux. While there, the plan is to play a match against the local club in Biscarosse and hopefully sit in on an Ireland training session.

As a result of the trip, there will be no First or Second XV games over the next two weeks, but this Saturday the Third XV kick off their league campaign under the leadership of Norman Richmond, ably assisted by Gareth Nevin. Norman has managed to 'recruit' what looks to be a strong squad and indeed they travelled to City of Derry a fortnight ago to participate in the 'Dooley Cup'.

While things did not go entirely to plan, the performances were more than acceptable, and having had little or no preparation for the event the results were encouraging, drawing one and losing two of their pool matches by only one score.

With two games on, and three matches in the Rugby World Cup, why not come along to Mullaghmeen on Saturday and cheer on the boys and also watch the professionals in action.
