Assistant Chief Constable for Urban Region, Duncan McCausland and Assistant Chief Constable for Rural Region, Judith Gillespie have welcomed a significant reduction in car crime and burglary over the last five years.
The two senior officers have vowed to continue to work with their partner agencies to tackle these serious areas of concern. They were speaking after a meeting with Criminal Justice Minister, Maria Eagle.
"Since 2001", they stated, " there have been 8,000 fewer car crimes and 2,200 fewer homes burgled. These significant reductions were achieved as a result of professional proactive policing, effective multi-agency partnership and support and assistance from the community.
"As well as intelligence-led policing, targeting of prolific criminals, high visibility patrolling and crime prevention strategies the Police Service have worked closely with the NIO Community Safety Unit, DPPs and other partners on a range of initiatives to drive down car crime and burglary."
The two offiers said they understood how distressing it can be to have one's car or home broken into and they promised tol continue to strive to reduce these crimes, target the criminals, bring more people before the courts and improve the lives of everyone in Northern Ireland.
