The Prince's Trust is seeking Volunteer Mentors to support young people as they start up their own businesses.
The Trust is a charity which helps disadvantaged young people. Its staff work with young people who struggle at school, are long-term unemployed, are in or leaving care, or have been in trouble with the law. The Trust's Business Programme offers 'start-up' services and finance to help young people set up their own businesses.
"Mentoring", a spokeswoman explained. " is a critical element of the programme, providing young people with the support they need to ensure the success and survivability of their businesses.
"By sharing your skills and experience with someone who's just started their own business, you could make a difference at such a critical time".
The Trust is presently looking for people who can give 2-4 hours per month and who have the ability to relate to and communicate well with young people.
In return, they will benefit from a new challenge, get the opportunity to meet new people and share in the feeling of success.
Training and ongoing support will be provided.
John, a Volunteer Mentor first became a mentor in order to offer a helping hand to someone else just starting up in business in his community.
He surprised at the rewards he got in return.
"I soon learned that I got as much out of the relationship as they did. Just seeing someone grow up and knowing that you've helped them by just being there. That's the reward."
Volunteering with The Prince's Trust will also give you an opportunity to do something positive in your spare time.
For Joanna, a Volunteer Mentor it gave her 'a real buzz knowing that I was helping someone else. I'd encourage everyone to become a volunteer'.
