Residents in the Hillview area of Enniskillen are appealing for parents to know what their children are doing as the long summer evenings approach.
A frustrated resident of Hillview told the 'Herald' there were a number of 'hoodies' aged between 13 and 15 creating 'a nuisance' in the area.
He added: "There is a great deal of anti-social behaviour going on in the area, and it is only going to get worse as the summer months approach. Youths are hanging around, throwing stones and intimidating people, that sort of thing.
There have also been a number of newly planted trees which have been cut down for badness. There seems to be little being done about it either by the Tenants Association or the police.
"I would urge parents to know what their children are getting up. I would also like to see more community police out on the beat in the area."
The resident also expressed disappointment that Hillview does not have any traffic calming measures in place to help make the area a safer place for residents.
However, Andrew Knox from Roads Service explained that areas are assessed for traffic calming on a points' system, based on the level of speeding, the volume of traffic, and the number of reported collisions in the area.
He said the Hillview area had been assessed with regards introducing traffic calming measures, but had not scored as highly as other areas in the County, such as Ederney which has a high volume of traffic and where a traffic calming scheme has just been completed.
Mr Knox assured the assessment of Hillview would be reviewed on an ongoing basis.
Outlining some of the Roads Service spend for 2008/09, Mr Knox said there was a major scheme of traffic calming planned for Irvinestown in the form of red surfacing to highlight the speed limit change.
Other measures included gateway signs into estates, and traffic calming in a number of areas, including Sallyswood; Reihill Park; Hudson Heights; and Bridge Street. Roundabouts at both ends of Brownhill Link are also proposed.
Mr Knox explained there would be a public meeting to discuss these proposals and he urged the people of Irvinestown to make their views known on the subject.
The meeting is scheduled to take place before the end of June at a venue to be decided.
