As students across Fermanagh struggle with their exams at this time, Ederney student James Maguire found a novel way of dealing with his pent up frustration at the 'never ending' routine of studying and sitting exams.
James a 17-year-old student at St Michael's College, is currently sitting AS level exams in English Literature, Politics, and History. While studying he found time to pen the following poem.
Never-Ending
('WRITTEN WHILE ON A BREAK')
As I glance out my window
From the top room floor,
I ponder and question,
"What is it all for?"
I sit in my room
With seldom light,
And do not leave, till dusk, near night.
With books to learn, notes to take...
"I just want to live! For Christ sake!"
I yearn to be free, to do what I please,
To travel, to see and gather memories.
To prospect the world, not through a book,
But to behold its beauty, from my outlook.
Alas, sadly, I cannot forward time,
Feeling always once, I committed a crime.
Trapped inside four walls,
With my door as a gate,
My mind being rattled,
To create...to create.
I know what they say,
"The best way out is through,
What you're doing is best,
I believe in you."
But I've been doing it now
For many long years,
It will not stop.
I should be in tears.
To succeed in life,
To achieve my dreams,
This is the only way, only path, it seems.
Have to keep going,
Keep hanging
On
And I can never stop,
No matter how much I yawn.
This matter resided deep in my heart,
But now I must, again, make a start.
For I have been here now, well,
Quite some time.
For this was the reason
I created this rhyme.
