An Enniskillen motorist who drove out of the Coa Road onto the Irvinestown road into the path of another vehicle causing a collision, has appeared before Fermanagh Magistrates Court charged with driving without due care and attention.
Martina Owens (45) from Meadowdale, Tempo Road pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined £200 and had three penalty points endorsed on her licence.
In evidence, the court heard that on 10th March this year, police were tasked to a two vehicle collision at the junction of the Coa Road and Irvinestown road. A Volkswagen Polo, driven by the defendant, had been in collision with a red Ford Fiesta.
The defendant had been driving along the Coa road and then had exited this road onto the Irvinestown road, colliding with the Fiesta being driven along the Irvinestown road.
The defendant and her passenger received injuries in the crash, the Court was told.
On 1st May the defendant was cautioned for driving without due care and attention but she declined to answer any questions or talk about the incident to police.
Defending, Neil Ferguson explained his client was intending to turn right onto the main road. She was a full-time carer for her sick father but as the defendant sustained fractured ribs in the crash - and had to spend time in hospital - her father had to be taken into full-time care. The defence asked the court give credit for the defendant's eighteen-year clear driving record.
