Success for sailors yet again

This was the third in a series of five Topper Traveller Series held at Carrickfergus Sailing Club, Co. Antrim on Sunday, 17th June, 2007.

There were 28 sailors taking part from clubs around Ireland. The Race Officer on the day was Stephen Penny, the first gun was scheduled for 11.25am but was postponed for a time due to lack of wind.

However, all the sailors eventually got out on the water raced three races in very light winds three to four knots at best, favourable for the light sailors and testing the skills of the heavier sailors in the fleet.

All the LEYC sailors put in good performances. Results: Ali Ghareeb U-16 second overall, Robert Murray U-14 13th, Fionnan Martin U-14 19th, Ashraf Ghareeb U-14 20th, and Jarlath Mahon U-14 23rd.

The next Topper Traveller will be at Blessington Sailing Club, Co. Wicklow on Saturday, 14th July 2007.

In the meantime, the RYANI will be holding County Day Training on Saturday, 30th June, 2007 at Lough Erne Yacht Club. This will be a great opportunity not to be missed.

This is open to all Northern Irish sailors under the age of 15 in Topper, Optimist and Laser 4.7 classes. It is aimed primarily at those sailors not on the NI Squad who wish to develop their racing skills with a squad coach in order to help them gain a good understanding of racing within the class in order to go on to compete at open class events. Squad sailors may also take part.
