Rural lift marks Community
Transport Week

Rural Lift for South West Fermanagh are holding an information coffee morning on Wednesday of next week, 19th September between 11am and 1pm to celebrate the ongoing success of local community Transport during the Community Transport Week (17-21 September 2007).

Rural Lift, a non profit making charity working to provide transport solutions for people in the Fermanagh area, will also be making a presentation to the 150,000th passenger to use its services.

Its manager, Anita Flanagan explained:" Rural Lift has been providing a wonderful local transport service for seven years. Many local people who find it difficult to access conventional types of transport find Community Transport Services invaluable. We are delighted to be able to provide a local service for local people."

Rural Lift provides door-to-door transport services for individuals to services such as the doctors, chemists, shops or hairdressers. A number of individuals use Rural Lift to get to work or training to gain employment.

There are also a number of new door to door services operating, including transport to the Training Centre in Enniskillen for 16-17 year olds and the home from school club for students who wish to participate in after-school activities and have no transport to get home. Many groups use Rural Lift vehicles to provide transport to clubs, such as the local senior citizen's club, afterschools clubs or football match.

"We are run by and for the local community", Anita insisted. "Rural Lift is managed by local people. Many of our drivers are volunteers. Our minibuses are subsidised by the Department for Regional Development's Rural Transport Fund. There are also a number of volunteer car drivers who provide specific transport for individuals through our Voluntary Car Scheme. The transport we provide is affordable and fully accessible for everyone in our community".

Transport is provided in the right type of vehicle to suit your needs. Rural Lift provides transport that is particularly suitable and safe for older people, people with limited mobility and people with disabilities.

Drivers are all police checked and MiDAS-trained to ensure passengers have a safe and comfortable trip. Passenger needs are more important than keeping to a timetable or making money.

To access Rural Lift services contact Anita or Lynn for a membership form and further details. Only members can be transported. Telephone 028 66324260
