Assaulting another man in Enniskillen has left one Tempo man facing 120 hours Community Service.
Before a recent sitting of Fermanagh Magistrates Court charged with common assault was Niall Brennan (20) with an address at Edenmore Heights in Tempo.
The court heard that on 17th February the defendant came over to the injured party in a bar and swung a punch at him. The defendant then hit the injured party on the back of the head.
Later, outside the premises, police saw the defendant swing another punch towards the injured party, at which point the defendant was arrested.
Defending, Nessa Murnaghan submitted that this was totally out of character for her client. She said her instructions were that the defendant believed that someone struck him first, but because there was no evidence of this, he accepted the police case and pleads guilty to the offence before the court.
Ms Murnaghan added that her client realised he wouldn't be where he was if he hadn't consumed alcohol that night. He was a young man of limited means, who had never been before the court before.
Sentencing, Resident Magistrate said he would give credit for Brennan's clear record, for his plea of guilty and for the way he appeared to regret his involvement in this matter.
A 120 hour community service order was imposed and the defendant was also ordered to pay £100 restitution to the injured party.
