Samuel Beckett's publisher, John Calder is giving a public talk in Beckett's old school, Portora Royal School tomorrow, 29th January, at 8.00pm.
He is also talking to students this Friday, 26th January at 10.30am from St Michael's College, Mount Lourdes the Collegiate Grammar Schools.
Mr Calder is a leading independent publisher. Over the course of his 50-year career, by his own admission, he has squandered fortunes on difficult, uncommercial writing. His VIP list has included avant-garde firebrands such as Henry Miller and William Burroughs, as well as numerous Nobel laureates, including Samuel Beckett, Heinrich Böll and Claude Simon.
His visit to Enniskillen is in conjunction with The Godot Theatre Company, who are producing 'Endgame', one of Samuel Beckett's earlier plays, in Steele Hall on Wednesday and Thursday, 4th and 5th February next. The Irish tour of 'Endgame' will start at Portora. These are the only performances of 'Endgame' in NI. John Calder will also speak about the themes in 'Endgame'.
Tickets to the public talk are free. Tickets to 'Endgame' can be obtained at the Reception in Portora (£10 for adults and £5 for students).
