Abbey 'leaks' customer's details

SDLP Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA Tommy Gallagher has demanded a High Street bank review their procedures after an Enniskillen customer's account details were given to a complete stranger in England.

Mr Gallagher was responding to a complaint from a constituent who discovered her details were given to a customer in England who then deposited more than £800 in her account in error.

WRITTEN

Officials from the Abbey have now written to the customer demanding the money be returned.

But, Mr Gallagher said he was determined to find out how the bank gave out the lady's account details on three different occasions.

Mr Gallagher indicated he has written to Abbey demanding an explanation how the incident had occurred and had expressed concern about the manner in which they had written to the lady ordering the return of the money in question.

COMPLAINT

Responding to the complaint, a spokesperson for the Abbey said the mistake had occurred 'due to human error'.

He added: "This lady's account was wrongly credited with £850. Abbey apologises for this mistake, but, since this money does not belong to her, she needs to pay it back. We have written to her notifying her the money will be recollected in early January. We can also confirm that her personal data and identity were not compromised."
