A Lithuanian national, who was detected by police speeding along the Cornagrade Road in Enniskillen has appeared before a recent sitting of Fermanagh Magistrates Court charged with a number of motoring related offences.
Yaroslav Barkevich (21), with an address at Glebe Park in Enniskillen, was detected by police speeding along the Cornagrade Road in Enniskillen on 19th October last year.
On the date in question, police detected the defendant driving along the Cornagrade Road at 60mph, an area restricted to 30mph.
When he was stopped by police, the officers discovered the defendant had no driving licence, no insurance and no vehicle test certificate for the car he was driving.
Defending, Aubrey Murray told the Court his client was in full-time employment. He was late for work when he was detected. As he was late for work, the defendant decided to take a friend's car, which he wasn't insured to drive.
Mr Murray told the court the defendant earns approximately £240 per week, £50 of which he sends home to his mother in Lithuania.
Sentencing, Resident Magistrate Mr McFarland fined the defendant £150 for speeding, and for driving without insurance, £250 and endorsed his licence with six penalty points. A fine of £50 was imposed for driving without a valid vehicle test certificate while he was further fined £25 for driving without a licence.
