An 18-year-old man who partook in a crime of dishonesty has been ordered to pay a fine of £150 and has been given a three month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.
Resident Magistrate Liam McNally heard how at approximately 2.50am on Friday, 9th of June last, police were called to Moneynoe Park, Enniskillen where a person explained how they had seen two males going through the glove box of her car.
When she got there, she noticed that among the items missing were a pair of sunglasses and cigarettes. Police arrived and another person was seen and later identified to be the defendant, Gary Hutchinson from Loane Drive, Enniskillen. He was heading in the direction of a Spar shop. He was stopped and found to be in possession of the missing items and was subsequently arrested.
Defending, Garry Smyth told the court his client had been charged in relation to the handling of the items and not the theft. He told the court Hutchinson accepted he was very drunk at the time in question and had very little recollection of events, although he accepted his guilt. He said his client was about to take up employment at a local saw mill, and further submitted that his client had shown a considerable amount of maturity in recent times.
Mr McNally told Hutchinson that he had pleaded guilty to a serious charge of handling stolen goods. He was jailed for three months, a sentence that was suspended for a period of 18 months. He was also fined £150.
