A 24-year-old man faces a £600 fine and a 12 month driving ban arising out of a number of motoring offences following a recent sitting of Fermanagh Magistrate's Court.
Resident Magistrate Bonita Boyd heard how on Saturday, 28th April this year, police were in Ederney village when they heard shouting coming from the Main Street and the sound of vehicles.
A blue transit van was seen leaving the side of the road and later, at High Street, police stopped the vehicle and the driver, the defendant Clive Thomas Hunter from Mullincoddy got out of the driver's seat.
There was a strong smell of intoxicating liquor detected of his breath. He was arrested after failing a preliminary breath test. A subsequent breath test showed 49 milligrams of alcohol in 100 micrograms of breath and a blood test revealed 99 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. Hunter was further charged with having no insurance.
Defending, Dara Montague said her client was driving the van because he had been ordered to do so by two older people. If he didn't drive, she was instructed, he was told he would take a beating.
