Five arrests over fraud charges

Five people were arrested on Tuesday morning in the Irvinestown area by police who are investigating serious financial deceptions.

Police arrested four women and a man and they are currently assisting police with enquiries.

A police spokesman said these latest arrests are part of an ongoing investigation which is likely to continue for some time.

He added that given the scale of the operation, officers had kept local community representatives informed of what was taking place.

CUSTODY

Last week, two men were remanded in custody when they appeared before Fermanagh Magistrate's Court in relation to deceptions stretching to the Republic of Ireland and in England.

They were charged after police raided a series of business premises and homes in the Enniskillen and Irvinestown areas.

The men, Paul Maye, 44, from Sallyswood, Irvinestown, and Dennis McGinley, 45, from College Park Lane, Enniskillen, were charged with obtaining more than £100,000 by deception from a man in the south and conspiring to defraud him.
