Runaway victory for Lisbellaw hurlers

LISBELLAW ST PATRICK'S......... 6-9

DERRYNOOSE .........................0-2

Lisbellaw hurlers completely dominated their opponents in this Round 2 game in the Armagh League.

At the break, they led by 3-5 to 0-0 and went on to add a score that was just one point less.

Derrynoose finally scored in the 10th and 11th minutes of the second half but, unfortunately for them, that proved to be their entire score in a match that was time reduced owing to increasing darkness and unfavourable weather conditions..

Fermanagh's only other senior hurling club Lisnaskea Emmett's had a bye that same evening.

Lisbellaw - Peter McEvoy, Gus Bannon, Cathal McGarry, J.P. McGarry; Matthew Teague, Mark Slevin, Declan McGarry (1 pt.); David Slevin and Rory O'Donnell; Ryan Bogue (1 gl.), Karl Kehoe (2 gls.), Brendan McGarry (1 gl 3 pts); Sean Corrigan (1 gl.), Ollie McShea (1 pt.), Andrew Breslin

(1- 2) pts), Brian Jones (2 pts).

Referee, Patsy O'Donnell, Middleton. Ulster Club Senior League 2008.

On Saturday last, 26 April, it was much closer fare.

LURGAN ST TRACEY'S ...........1-12

LISBELLAW ST PATRICK'S .......2-19

Played at Lurgan Sean Tracey's ground, scores were traded early on, with Lisbellaw hitting the front with points from Mark Slevin (2) and Ryan Bogue (free). Unrelenting Lisbellaw pressure forced a '65, which was floated in for Lisbellaw's full forward, Dermot Curran who found the net in the 10th minute.

Try as they could, Lurgan failed to seriously dent the Lisbellaw rearguard, and in the final 10 minutes to the interval, Lisbellaw laid siege to their goal and, as a result, scored a further 1 goal and 4 points, the goal coming from Peter Timoney.

That left the half time scores at - Lurgan St Tracey's, 0-5; Lisbellaw St Patrick's, 2-8.

A terrific point from Karl Kehoe set the standard for further scores, not for his team, rather the oppostion!

Lurgan's Paddy Devine was now firing on all cylinders sent over an eighth point Lurgan which preceded a goal from their sub, Darren McAlinden. With three quarters of this match and the score line now at 1 goal 8 points for Lurgan to 2 goals 10 points, there was little between the sides.

Spurred on by their centre half back Brendan Colman, Lurgan added a further four points to attempt to claw into Lisbellaw's lead.

But, rather than it being Lurgan's day, it was the visitors who came, saw, and conquered and won the that day. They had taken the foot of the pedestal early in the second half, but made up for that very forcibly in the final 10 minutes, adding a further nine points.
