NEWTOWNBUTLER ...................2-8
AUGHDRUMSEE .......................0-6
The second half was to be the decisive period of this tie. The opening thirty minutes had been a well contested affair, both sets of defences gaining the upperhand in what was a low scoring tussle. Newtownbutler were to edge matters at the break on a scoreline of four to three but as the second half progressed the Aughdrumsee challenge gradually seeped away and at the end, Newtown had plenty in hand.
Newtown had been the sharper team over the first quarter and they nudged themselves into a three point advantage with points supplied by Conor Beggan and Nathan Fitzpatrick but Aughdrumsee were to drag themselves into contention thanks to a lively spurt in the ten minute passage leading up to half time.
With Aiden Flanagan and Eugene Kearins doing well for them they hauled themselves to within a point of the leaders and a rousing second half appeared to be in the offing.
But instead it was to a case of increasing Newtownbutler pressure and that pressure eventually led to two goals which sealed the matter. First goal came on forty minutes and it put Aughdrumsee on the back foot. Second goal arrived some ten minutes later, Joe McCormack the scorer and that clinched the victory for the First Fermanagh's.
In answer Aughdrumsee had points from Damian Flanagan and Eugene Kearins but they never looked like scooping up the goal which might have given them a chance of recovery. For the losing side, full back Jason Crudden was a tenacious defender, Andrew Toye did well at wing half and Aiden Flanagan was a useful half forward.
For Newtownbutler, David McAvinue had a fine match in goal, denying Aughdrumsee the break they desperately needed, Conor Beggan and James McMahon were also two outstanding figures for them.
KINAWLEY MUCH TOO STRONG
KINAWLEY ............................. 4-17
BROOKEBORO .......................... 1-3
A completely one sided affair this, neither team benefiting from it, as Kinawley waltzed their way to a facile success. The game as a contest was decided by the interval, by which stage a rampant Kinawley team had steamrollered their way to a huge lead.
They were to slacken off in the second period to some extent but there was never any question of an overwhelmed Brookeboro team being able to make any dent in the deficit.
Brookeboro had first half points from Ryan Toye and Niall Mohan with Patrick Boyle knocking in a second half goal for them, this goal their only score of the second half. John Boyle, Emmet Murphy and Kevin Mulligan were among those who tried exceptionally hard for the under pressure Brookeboro team but their efforts bore little fruit.
For Kinawley, Tomas Corrigan had a free wheeling hour and helped himself to a big tally of scores and others especially prominent for them included Aodghan Murphy and Ruairi Corrigan but this mismatch served little purpose.
TEEMORE WIN TIGHT TIE
COA .......................................1-10
TEEMORE .................................2-9
Teemore produced a splendid second half display to come from behind to squeeze out the narrowest of victories over Coa in a rousing contest. The beaten side were to be the more forceful team over the first half and they were to go in at the break leading by five points on a scoresheet of eight to three.
It had been a positive Coa performance with points chipped in on a regular basis by Lloyd Harte, Jason Farry and Tommy Murphy. A sluggish Teemore team had isolated points in response from Brendan McBarron and Liam Martin but they looked to have their work cut out if they were to haul themselves back into this contest.
But haul themselves back in is exactly what they managed to do and the once confident Coa team began to unravel. The dismissal of a Coa player on the start of the final quarter was also to have a bearing on the exchanges.
All three goals scored in the match came in the second half. For Coa the marksman was Jason Farry who managed to get a touch to a high ball floated into the Teemore goal area.
For Teemore, it was Liam Martin and Brendan McBarron who poached a goal each and these scores swung the result in their favour.
For Coa, Tommy Murphy was a leading figure while for Teemore, full back Kealan Barratt was a solid defender, Liam Martin featured upfield and Patrick McManus did fine work in the centre of the park.
