Disorderly at the Diamond

A Lisnarick man has appeared before a recent sitting of Fermanagh Magistrates Court on a charge of disorderly behaviour.

Hugh Joseph Patrick Almond (31) from Connolly Park in Lisnarick was bound over to keep the peace for 18 months to the sum of £500 for the offence which happened on 8th February this year.

The court heard evidence that on 8th February police were called to Pat's Bar in the Diamond area of Enniskillen where two males had been causing an annoyance.

The males, one of which was the defendant, had been asked to leave the premises and had left but returned about 20 minutes later at which time the defendant squared up to one of the police officers. When he refused to back down he was arrested and cautioned to which he replied, 'F*** you, you bald bastard'.

Defending, Sean McHugh explained his client had a very substantial amount of alcohol that evening and because of this his recollection of what occurred would have been 'nil' although he doesn't contradict the prosecution's version of events.

Mr McHugh said when the defendant was taken to Enniskillen Police Station, and sobered up, he co-operated fully with police.

Mr McHugh said this type of behaviour would have been out of character for this single man.

Resident Magistrate Liam McNally accepted the defendant's plea and acknowledged the defendant had publicly apologised to the police constable involved.
