This Thursday evening 1st May at 8.00pm, you are asked to open your minds and join Bruiser Theatre Company on a fantastic journey of the imagination when they present their excellent production of Voltaire's hilarious adventure story 'Candide', directed by Lisa May.
The show has something for everyone comedy, action, romance, some excellent ensemble acting and a mysterious old woman with only one buttock. In a production that has excellent comic timing, it's a story about a hero who searches all over the world for his sweetheart and the things he encounters during his journey.
As the Belfast Telegraph review put it "Candide has Lisa May's trademark stamped all over it. It's a sharp, snappy and very physical.....a comic whirlwind tour of the world. It's a fine piece of ensemble acting, which requires pin-point timing from the cast, as well as enormous quantities of energy."
Bruiser's production of 'Candide' comes hot on the heels of their recent acclaimed 'Blue Remembered Hills', 'The Canterbury Tales', 'Faustus', 'The School for Scandal' and 'The Threepenny Opera'. The production is suitable for 14 years and upwards.
HAUNTING MUSICAL EXPERIENCE
Demand has been great for Tommy Fleming's two Ardhowen Theatre concerts taking place this weekend on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd May. Saturday's concert is already sold out, with Friday night heading there fast.
Tommy Fleming has many times been described as the 'Voice of Ireland' and is one of the busiest and most successful Irish entertainers on tour and has been now for almost thirteen years. With the biggest selling album in Ireland in 2005/2006, 'The Voice Of Hope', it was followed by the equally successful 'A Life Of Mine'. Much in demand all over the world, he has worked extensively in Europe and the U.S.A. Songs such as 'Danny Boy', 'Isle Of Innisfree' and 'Hard Times' with his own unique arrangements are hauntingly beautiful. Songs such as 'You Raise Me Up', 'Bridge Over Troubled Waters', 'From A Distance' and 'Something Inside So Strong' also get Tommy's unique treatment in a powerful energy charged evening of song.
DONEGAL SINGING STARLET
On Friday 9th May, after her excellent debut on the Ardhowen stage last year, Deirdre Bonner is back in her own show, accompanied by the very talented 'Country Harmony' band, as she sings a wide range of popular songs featured on her albums together with some new songs and requests from the audience.
Her two successful albums 'Atlantic Bridges' and 'Remember When' have been hugely popular in Ireland and have helped form a solid and increasing fan base. Her range of material embraces Ballads, Country and Irish, Country Gospel, American Country and all time favourites. Her rendition of the classic 'Tennessee Waltz' on her previous visit and the audience reaction to it, is a sure indication that this young artist is destined for stardom. It's a superb, feel good family concert that's sure to please. It starts at 8.00pm.
