Two defeats for U15s but positive signs from event

Club Éirne U15 Development Squad v Cavan Saturday 3rd May 2008

Fermanagh U15s had a very worthwhile two-game event against Cavan in Kinawley on Saturday 3rd May. The Kinawley venue was ideal for these games with the two pitches and the first class accommodation.

The Fermanagh coaches, Ciaran Carey, Brendan Rasdale and Peter McGinnity, divided their 40 players into two even teams and their Cavan counterparts did the same. The games started at 11.00 am under the watchful eyes of Frankie Smyth and Emmett Lavelle. Despite the fact that both Fermanagh teams ended up losing their respective games 40 young players got exposure to the pace, strength and quality of inter-county football. Many of the players showed that with continued improvement they are well capable of competing at this level. Special mention for stand-in keeper Liam Martin who was superb throughout!

The Fermanagh teams lined out as follows:

Team 1.

Brian McAleer, Tomás McCusker, Mark Fitzpatrick, Kieran Gunn, Killian Kiernan,

Louis Leonard, Sé Cullen, Kevin Officer, Niall Beggan, Daniel Teague, Christopher Ferguson, Ryan Lyons, Cahir McElroy, Sean Treacy, Shane Lynch.

Subs used: Christopher Crudden, Declan Duffy, Conor McNally, Colman Corrigan, Eddie Courtney,

Team 2.

Liam Martin, Nathan Cassidy, Eoin Hamill, Cormac McElroy, Conor Sherlock,

Ronan McDonagh, Aaron Davis, Patrick McManus, Ryan Hyde, James Duffy,

Christopher Sheridan, John Joe Strain, Bryan Owens, Ruairi McGrade, Ruairi Corrigan.

Subs used: Peter Cassidy, Colin Lunney, Michael Gilroy, Patrick Fee, John Maguire.

The next event for these players is a group coaching session after school on Monday 12th May 2008.This will be the final preparation for the first Ulster Council Blitz in Cookstown on Saturday 17th May.
