BELCOO...................................1-11
IRVINESTOWN ....................... 3-14
This was the fourth win in five outings for Irvinestown, their opening game saw them held to a draw, so they have shown themselves to be the strongest team in the top division.
But they didn't have matters all their own way, at least initially, against a lively and determined Belcoo team. It was Belcoo who shaped up as the sharper and more positive team in the first half and they were to go in at the interval leading by a six point margin. In fact Irvinestown had given little indication that they were the leading side in the division but all that was to change on the turnover.
Gaining a firm grip around the middle of the park, the absence for Belcoo of midfielder Brian Cox a major factor here, Irvinestown promptly set about the task of dismantling the Belcoo lead.
They had quick encouragement with a goal from James Duffy inside five minutes and with the centrefield pairing of Paul Leonard and Liam Murphy now pulling the strings it was to be a case of almost constant Irvinestown pressure.
A second goal came on the threequarter mark, this one notched by Kevin Duffy and the faltering Belcoo challenge disappeared. In due course a rampant Irvinestown team was to fire home a third goal, Ciaran Murphy the marksman on this occasion and with a string of points added on they had plenty to spare at the end.
Belcoo will be disappointed by the way in which they failed to build on their excellent opening half effort. In that period they had a number of points from Jonathan Feely, Paddy Burns and Ronan Ferguson while Gavin Leonard thumped in a goal for them.
But it then fell apart despite the fine performances of goalkeeper Paul Duffy, defenders Stephen Nolan, Ryan Leonard and Niall Furey.
For Irvinestown, Ronan Ormsby was an especially effective forward, always in the heart of the second half revival with Joey Miller, Liam Murphy and Chris Lyons also doing a lot of steady play.
Erne Gaels come from behind
BELNALECK.............................. 1-7
ERNE GAELS..................................... 2-8
Erne Gaels had to put in a considerably improved second half display to get the better of Belnaleck. The Belleek team were very indifferent in the opening thirty minutes and they were well contained by a purposeful Belnaleck side.
The Belnaleck defence was to be especially solid over the first period, restricting the opposing forward line to a paltry three points tally, those scores coming from Ryan Lyons and Gavin McGrath.
At the other end of the park however it was only marginally better for Belnaleck. They were also finding it tough enough going to carve out the scoring chances but they did collect, in the end half a dozen scores, Kane Connors, Martin Quigley and Matthew McCauley all shooting over for them.
Erne Gaels were to have a tonic resumption to the second half with a goal from Paul O'Shea on thirty three minutes but Belnaleck were able to respond to this with a goal in reply from McCauley.
However by this stage it was Erne Gaels who appeared to be the team who were getting into their stride and over the final quarter it was they who looked the better team. A Paul McCaffery goal on fifty minutes brought them right back into contention and with the Belnaleck effort now showing signs of weakening it was Erne Gaels who dominated the run in.
A Ryan Lyons point hauled the Belleek team level and they raced in for a series of points that clinched a hard earned win. For the winning squad, Martin Kilfeather who tossed over a couple of points from wing half, Brian Mullins in midfield and Paul O'Shea all performed well while for Belnaleck, Kane Connors and Martin Quigley were best on the night.
Devenish leave it very late indeed
DEVENISH.............................. 1-10
ENNISKILLEN ........................ 0-13
A draw at the interval in Garrison and a draw at full time but this was a game which Enniskillen will believe that they allowed to slip from their grasp. The Gaels had been the better side after the break and with time coming to the sixty minute mark they seemed to have the victory wrapped up.
But Devenish had not thrown in the towel by any means and they staged a terrific last ditch rally that saw them shoot three points to secure a memorable win.
Joe O'Brien and two shots from Gavin Gallagher brought the teams level the final, levelling score coming on the stroke of full time.
Just one goal over the course of the hour and this fell to Devenish, Joe O'Brien firing home his shot on twenty minutes that goal edging the home side into the lead.
Points for Devenish in this opening period came from Gavin Gallagher and Caolan Woods while answering for the Gaels were Paul Mullin and Conor McAleer, the latter hitting four in all to leave an interval scoreline of 1-4 to 0-7.
In the third quarter it was again fairly evenly balanced before Enniskillen began to exert stronger pressure. They were to have scores tossed over by Gareth Clarke and Liam Lindsay while Richard O'Callaghan also hit the target.
Enough to win the game perhaps but Devenish had enough left in their tank to stage the last ditch equalising revival.
For Enniskillen Michael Mooney in goal had a number of excellent stops to his credit, Chris Power worked hard in the full back line and Gary Donegan had a particularly good first half. Substitute Paudie Lunney made an impression on his arrival.
For Devenish, Noel Maguire had a strong game in defence with Caolan Woods and Gavin Gallagher the brighter figures further up front.
