Kinawley on song once more

AUGHDRUMSEE ..........................................1-13

KINAWLEY .................................................4-16

Kinawley had a comfortable winning margin in the end but this was not a particularly comfortable game for them. In fact they were to have their troubles in the opening half as Aughdrumsee produced a stirring performance and it was no great surprise to see Aughdrumsee go in at the break leading by a point on a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-9.

At one stage Aughdrumsee had surged five points clear and they had Kinawley in all sorts of trouble but once the second half got underway there was to be a distinct change in the tenor of the contest.

Kinawley who in the lead up to the break had begun to show signs of shaking themselves up were to gain a firmer grip on matters and in the end they raced their way through an increasingly weakening Aughdrumsee rearguard to collect the scores that brought them well clear. But two of their four goal haul did not come until the final quarter was well advanced.

Noel Martin was a leading figure in the Kinawley display and he chipped in with vital scores. The Corrigan brothers, Tomas and Ruairi were also to feature solidly in the overall Kinawley performance while Ryan Cornyn and Paul Doonan were sturdy in their back line, especially in the second half when they managed to stall the tide of Aughdrumsee scores.

And there was a tide of Aughdrumsee scores in the initial twenty minutes, Damian Flanagan much to the fore in their assault and he picked up several points and also thumped in what was to be his team's only goal. Other scores for the losing side were to be supplied by Stephen Flynn and Andrew Flanagan.

Defensively Aughdrumsee were to be best served by Andrew Toye and Chris Crudden but on the changeover the team was to fade out of the picture, second half points, just three in all, coming from Eugene Kearins and Sean McManus.

Brookeboro squeeze out a win

BROOKEBORO............................................. 2-5

NEWTOWNBUTLER ......................................1-7

A competitive contest this with little to separate the teams at any stage, they were level at the half time break and going into the final minutes they were still deadlocked. A Newtownbutler goal had seen the First Fermanagh's peg back the lead which Brookeboro had managed to establish over the final quarter. But Brookeboro were eventually to come out on top as they swung the issue their way with a matchwinning point fired over by Niall Moane. Moane in fact had been much to the fore in the Brookeboro effort. He had collected their opening goal this coming on ten minutes.

Goal two for Brookeboro had been supplied by John Boyle, this arriving ten minutes from time but Newtownbutler had been able to respond to this with an answering goal from Jason Lewis and this set up a frantic finale which was edged by Brookeboro.

Points for Brookeboro had come from Niall Moane and Gerard Flynn with Adam Cartwright on target on a regular basis for Newtownbutler.

For the winning side, full back Emmet Murphy had a steady match with Dermot Toye doing solid work in the half back line and Niall Moane was always a presence in the attack.

For Newtownbutler, David McAvinney enjoyed a sound match in goal with Niall Mohan and Adam Cartwright the more influential players for them further up the park.
