DERRYGONNELLY ....................4-16
ST JOSEPHS ............................3-6
Derrygonnelly scored a much needed victory here, pulling well clear of visiting St Josephs in what was to be a fairly high scoring encounter. The Harps forward line was to enjoy a particularly prolific hour and scores flowed regularly for them throughout.
They were quickly off the mark with a number of early points collected before they made a significant breakthrough with the first of what was to be a four goal tally.
Those points had come from Tiarnan Daly, Andrew Duffy, Maurice Cassidy and Ryan Jones with the goal knocked in by Chris Ferguson at the start of the second quarter.
St Josephs had not really got into their stride though they did manage to stay within range.
They had points tacked on by Michael McAleer and Declan McCusker and it was McAleer who grabbed a goal for them.
But overall it was Derrygonnelly who were playing the more cohesive brand of football and they had the St Josephs rearguard in difficulty on many occasions.
Chris Ferguson hit two goals in the middle stages of the half to power the Harps well in front and from there to the end they were not to be seriously troubled.
St Josephs did have their own response, a goal from Joseph Monaghan boosting their effort, but the gap between the teams had stretched and when Derrygonnelly struck for their fourth goal, this coming close to the finish, the win was to be a comprehensive one for the home team.
For St Joseph's who have had something of a mixed run of results so far, Gavin Logue and Finnbarr Gillen were two hardworking defenders but this sector of their team generally had it's hands full in trying to contain a fleetfooted Derrygonnelly attack. Michael McAleer and Declan McCusker were the more effective players up front for the losing side.
For Derrygonnelly, half back Chris Farrell and goalkeeper Brian Hoy were among those who shone in defence with Chris Ferguson always a potent threat up front.
Maguiresbridge take derby tussle
LISNASKEA............................. 0-3
MAGUIRESBRIDGE ...................0-8
Derby clashes are quite often tightly fought affairs and so it was with this one which saw both sets of defences generally hold the upperhand and scoring remained sluggish throughout. But in the end this was to be a deserved win for Maguiresbridge for they just had that sharper touch up front.
They had their best passage in the opening half, a period which saw them shoot five points in all, but the foundation was being laid down by their back division, which was to restrict the curtailed Emmets forward line to just a single score. And in the second half it was basically more of the same pattern, the Lisnaskea forward line unable to make any appreciable headway and in the end the meagre three point tally tells it's own story of the evening.
First half points for Maguiresbridge were to come from David and Robert Johnson, Sean Corrigan and James Gallagher with Ciaran Conlon the lone answer for Lisnaskea.
In the second half, John Duffy tossed over two further points for Maguiresbridge and David Johnson added a single and that was more than enough to gain the victory.
Lisnaskea struggled to have a couple of scores in reply, Conlon on the mark again and Ryan O'Keefe also on the limited scoresheet. For the losing side, Shane Curran did well in the back line while for Maguiresbridge, Danny McCusker at corner back Rory Porteous at full back and Robert Johnson in the middle of the park all contributed heftily to the team cause.
