Currach boat racing welcomed by Chairman


The International Currach Association was welcomed to Fermanagh by the Chairman of Fermanagh District Council, Alex Baird.

At a Chairman's reception in Enniskillen Townhall, Mr Baird said he was pleased to welcome visitors from America, England and all over Ireland.

"I understand that over the weekend you will have the opportunity to visit some of our local attractions. We are especially proud of our county which is one of the most beautiful in Ireland and we hope you enjoy your stay with us."

He added that the Council was very pleased to be associated with the International Currach Racing Championships. This is the first time the event was held in Fermanagh.

"The council prides itself in attracting and developing a number of events in the county and we hope the partnerships established with the International Currach Association can be built on in future years," he told guest.

"Events like this do not happen without a lot of hard work and I wish to pay tribute to Audrey, Michael, Tom, Shane and their team."

The the Association's closing dinner he said, " I hope that all the competitors have had a competitive, but enjoyable stay in Fermanagh and that we will see you back here again soon. The level of performance has been extremely high which is a credit to you all," he added.
