ROSLEA ............................. 0-11
ST JOSEPHS ....................... 2-8
After their close shave the previous week, Roslea have now been served up further notice that coming out of this second division will be a tougher task than they may have anticipated. Here they were cruising to a predictable win over visiting St Josephs but they were to undergo a catastrophic late collapse which saw the Ederney team swoop for a stunning late success.
From an Ederney point of view this was a terrific victory following on from their commendable effort in their opening match with the other promotion favourites Irvinestown and they will now have a real feeling that indeed they can emerge as a key player in this division.
Roslea will certainly need to use the lay off over the next few weeks to address the situation that they find themselves in. They started this game with a will, dominating the early play. It did take some time before the scores flowed, several wides racked up, but eventually they got on the move. Points from Kevin Cosgrove, Ruairi McGuinness and Peter Lynch eased them five points in front and the game was by all accounts taking its expected route.
But Roslea were to be reeled back in by a splendid goal from Enda Ferris who galloped down the heart of the Roslea defence before dispatching a crisp shot to the bottom corner of the net. Ferris was to shoot two points and suddenly all the initial promising work from Roslea had been wiped out.
Ferris's second point had arrived on twenty minutes and this was to be his team's last score until ten minutes from time. In the intervening period, Roslea had set about the task of rebuilding a lead and in the build up to the break they duly did this with a four point streak from Peter Lynch, James Sherry, Eamon Sherry and James Sherry again.
In the third quarter the Shamrocks were still in command and three further points shoved them six points in front, with the contest basically wrapped up.
But there was a devastating sting in the tail as far as luckless Roslea were concerned as they were dramatically scuppered by the stunning St Joseph's revival. Dwayne McAlynn, Declan McCusker and Conor McGrath all had points for the revitalised Ederney team as they simply took over.
Roslea were suddenly in the deepest of trouble and when St Josephs grabbed their second goal, Dwayne McAlynn the marksman, the unfancied visitors were on their way to what could be one of the key wins of the campaign.
For St Josephs, defenders Conor Keown and John Irvine were prominent with Enda Ferris providing inspiration up front and Dwaye McAlynn had a fine match in a couple of positions over the course of an industrious hour.
For Roslea, Kevin Cosgrove was again the lead man in the middle of the park and Martin Renfrew was sound in defence.
