Aughdrumsee looking good

COA ........................................................... 0-7

AUGHDRUMSEE ......................................... 4-14

In view of the fact that this game ended in a free scoring affair as far as Aughdrumsee were concerned the first half was a well contested thirty minutes. Coa were to go in at the interval trailing by just four points on a scoreline of 1-5 to 0-4 and in fact they should have been much closer.

They had been the side who had edged matters in the ten minute spell leading up to the break but they had failed to translate this command into scores. On the changeover the game was to take on a totally different complexion as the Coa challenge fizzled out and it was an ever improving Aughdrumsee who gained a firm grip on most sectors of the park.

In the end it was to something of a romp for Aughdrumsee and they finished with a very handsome look on their scoreboard.

Points for Coa in the opening half came from Nicky Dunbar and Luke McQuaid with Damian Flanagan posting a goal for Aughdrumsee on ten minutes and points were to be added on by Sean McMahon and Eugene Kearins. But there was no indication, at least at this stage that Aughdrumsee were to finish with a very comfortable success.

On the resumption however matters soon began to change and it was Aughdrumsee who went on a full scale offensive which eventually careered them to a huge win.

Aiden Flanagan shot a second goal for them and this score saw the Coa resolve dip. Despite some fine fielding by Lloyd Harte in the centre of the park, it was opposing Aughdrumsee who were gaining a lot of possession in this area and in the final quarter the leaders were to race in for two more goals, these scored by Sean McMahon and Damian Flanagan. Stephen Flynn was among the more regular points scorers for the leaders

Phillip Courtney had a good game in goal for the winner's denying Coa a much needed goal boost while Jason Crudden and Shane McKenna also featured for them.

Kinawley

edge through

KINAWLEY .................................................. 3-9

NEWTOWNBUTLER ..................................... 1-14

Lots of scores in this high scoring affair with Kinawley edging through by a slim two points margin at the end.

Top figure for the winners was Ruairi Corrigan who finished with a big score tally, his two goals key factors in shaping the win for his side.

Noel Martin had popped in a first half goal for Kinawley and this score gave them the interval lead but Newtownbutler were also having a fair amount of attacking play and they were to shoot an impressive number of points over the course of the hour.

But Newtown were not to find the net until very close to the final whistle, Adam Cartwright the marksman here and that score came a little too late to be of great use to them.

Corrrigan's two goal strike had Kinawley generally in a good position and they also had points tapped over by Tomas Corrigan. Others to shine for the winners were defenders Ryan Cornyn, Patrick McGovern and Ryan Scallon with Aiden Clarke doing good work in the middle of the park.

For Newtownbutler, first half points were supplied by Adam Cartwright and Conor Beggan and the same two were on target in the second half.

Back in the loser's defence, Brian Fitzpatrick, Niall Mohan and Martin McRory all put in steady displays.

Brookeboro

by two points

TEEMORE .................................................. 0-12

BROOKEBORO ............................................. 1-11

This was a tight fought affair but also a contest that was played out in an admirable sporting spirit despite the closeness of the scoring all the way through. In the end the victory went to Brookeboro and it was the goal which they scored which was to be the decisive moment.

That goal came very early on, was the only one to be scored and it gave Brookeboro a foundation. Patrick Boyle was the man to fire home the shot, in fact the game's first score. Teemore battled back well from this setback but they had to work hard to undo the damage. They were to have points from Liam Martin, John Drumm, Niall Curry and in fact went in at the break leading by a point. But Brookeboro still had the goal in their arsenal and in the second half they began to play with more confidence.

Their score tally started to mount as they came to grips with the Teemore threat and they were to push back into the lead with a number of points taken by Niall Moane and Ryan Toye.

For the winners, Ross Hennsessy at half back impressed while John Boyle produced a strong second half display which did a lot to engineer the team's success.

For Teemore, Kealan Barratt and Niall Lunney were two of the best defenders on view.
