A group of five athletes travelled to Antrim Forum to compete in the e-district Schools Athletic championships on Friday 9th May.
They had great success as they brought home four gold medals, and one silver medal. The star performer was Jonathan Magwood who won the junior boys 100 metres and 200 metres in fine style.
In the 100 metres he dipped under 12 seconds for the first time. In the minor boys Jordan Hylton won the 100 metres also in commanding fashion.
There was more success for the Portoran sprinters as Ben Bingham finished second in the senior boys 200 metres and 4th in the 100 metres.
Glenn Phairs ran a tacitly sound race in the senior boys 3000 metres. He shadowed the leaders throughout the race before storming to victory on the last lap.
There were also a couple of notable performances by John McKenzie in the Intermediate boys competition.
John placed 4th in both the High Jump and the Triple Jump with jumps of 1.70 and 11.64 respectively.
Four of these athletes will now travel to the Antrim forum on Saturday 17th May for the Ulster Schools Championships.
