Market day
Lisnaskea won't have seen the like of it for a while but, on Friday, 6th June, its famous Corn Market Yard, where the historic cross stands, will be the focal point for a re-enactment of what a market day used to be like in our grandmothers' time.
The event is the brainchild of Lisnaskea Historical Society whose members have already been around the local schools enlisting their active participation. It is envisaged that the children, and older family members, will come dressed as their grandparents dressed in the 1940's, the men wearing trousers, waistcoat and cap, and the women long skirts, shawl and/or bag apron, and a hat too.
Much work has still to be done, but Vicky Herbert, the secretary of Lisnaskea Historical Society is able at this stage to sketch out a fairly exciting programme, with running order. The children in period dress are expected to arrive at 10 o'clock in the morning to set up their stalls from which any money made will go to their own school funds.
There will be light-hearted banter between farmer and merchant, a demonstration of local crafts and a talk by Florence Creighton on what a typical day was like for her own grandmother.

Successful Feis
Fermanagh Feis had a successful year of competitions, with increased entries, new schools and workshops, The Committee thanked all of those who helped in any way.
"As there are only nine people running nine sections", said its spokeswoman, "a huge problem for the Committee is the lack of help on the day of competitions to make the events run smoothly. "We are presently trying to compile a list of people who we can contact to help section secretaries with Feis 2009. These people can be male/female, young/retired.
"Their duties would include taking door entry fees and selling programmes, assisting with getting competitors lined up for competitions etc.
The Committee would also like to have new members come forward to take up officer positions/assistant secretaries etc.
