An impressive 300-year-old oak tree, Castle Coole estate's oldest and largest tree, measuring 25 feet around the trunk, is certain to capture attention during a guided walk at the Enniskillen landmark this Sunday, 18 May.
Kicking off at 3.00pm, other impressive spectacles will include the native bluebells and panoramic views of much of the county during the first of the season's 'Off the Beaten Track' series of walks at the National Trust property.
These walks offer walkers a chance to see and visit areas of the estate not normally accessible to the public.
WOODLAND
Among the captivating areas visited will the broad leaf woodland of the Beech Wood with its native bluebells. These become more impressive and widespread every year, now that the wood has been cleared of invasive species such as laurel. Walkers who make it to the top of the Standing Stone hill will be rewarded with delightful panoramic views of a large part of Fermanagh.
Sunday's walk due will be led by National Trust head warden Alan Houston. Strong footwear is recommended. Further details on the walk can be obtained from Castle Coole 028 66 322690.
